Kansas spring game: QBs Carter Stanley, Peyton Bender in tight battle

The QB competition may rage through the offseason at Kansas.

The Jayhawks scored three touchdowns in 90 minutes of running-clock play Saturday, as quarterbacks Carter Stanley and Peyton Bender appeared to exit spring practice in much the same order as they entered it -- locked in a tight battle.

Stanley, the sophomore who started the final three games last year, including the Jayhawks’ overtime win over Texas, threw for 114 yards on 13-of-24 passing in the spring game. Bender, the junior transfer and who began his career at Washington State, connected on 11 of 15 throws for 143 yards and two scores.
