Kansas snapped a 15-game losing streak to open the season, then beat Texas 24-21 in overtime in Week 12, the Jayhawks’ first win in 20 Big 12 games. Otherwise, KU showed considerable progress under second-year coach David Beaty. A review of Kansas in 2016:
What went right: The defense got a lot better. The Jayhawks ranked 44th nationally and third in the Big 12 in opponent-adjusted defensive QBR, first in the league in passing yardage allowed per game, and they recorded 40 sacks. That’s a 14-sack improvement over last year when Kansas allowed 42.4 points per game in going winless.
