Wide receiver Devin Duvernay signed with the Baylor Bears on National Signing Day. But when head coach Art Briles was fired amid the sexual assault scandal, Duvernay backed out of his commitment. Luckily for him, Baylor failed to properly submit his National Letter of Intent, meaning Duvernay wouldn't need a release to attend another school.
Duvernay has drawn interest from plenty of schools, which isn't a surprise since the four-star WR is the No. 36 player in the country and the No. 4 WR. He was Baylor's top-rated commit in the class of 2016. Duvernay told ESPN Insider that he's down to three schools now: Oklahoma, Texas and TCU.
"I’ve just been talking to Texas, OU and TCU," Duvernay said. "I'm pretty sure [the decision] will come from those three schools."
Duvernay had plenty of options after it was revealed he didn't to get a release last Thursday.
"Thursday was most definitely the most hectic day of my recruitment," Duvernay said. "… It surprised me. I expected to get quite a few calls and messages, but I didn’t expect what happened. From the time it got out there that I could be recruited, I got more than 40 calls and messages. It didn’t stop all day. I talked on the phone or on direct message with a lot of schools. Off the top of my head, I talked to Texas, TCU, OU, Oklahoma State, FSU, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Miami, Washington State and there are more I can’t think of. I told the schools I would look at things."
But it's now down to OU, Texas and TCU. The Sooners might be the front-runner to land Duvernay, as they were his No. 2. Duvernay said he'll likely visits TCU and Texas, as soon as this weekend. He might not visit Oklahoma, since he's already checked out the campus.
A date for Duvernay's decision has not been set yet. The speedy WR could see the field early at any of the three schools he picks.
