The legacy Joey McGuire is leaving at Cedar Hill

When Joey McGuire was hired as Cedar Hill's football coach on Dec. 16, 2002, there were some questions about his qualifications. McGuire was only 31 years old, after all. He had been an assistant at Cedar Hill for six seasons, so that was something, but Cedar Hill's program was very much not something.

The Longhorns had never won a playoff game. Not one. So why did Cedar Hill hire from within, especially considering there were 96 applicants for the position?

"It's amazing to see how he relates to kids," athletic director Gina Farmer said at the time.
