In an interview with KWTX on Wednesday, crisis-communication specialist Merrie Spaeth interrupted after Starr's answer to a question about whether he had seen a former student's email titled "I was raped at Baylor."
Starr's initial answer was "I honestly may have. I'm not denying that I saw it."
Starr remains a law teacher at the university. In wake of the scandal, football coach Art Briles has been "suspended with intent to terminate" and athletic director Ian McCaw has resigned.
