Back in the fall of 2011 as the Art Briles-coached Baylor football team, led by Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III, was putting the pedal to the metal en route to the school's first double-digit-victory season, athletic director Ian McCaw was working on ensuring wins down the road.
One fortuitous day, McCaw took a call from a lower-level school looking for a game and a payday.
Liberty University wanted to play big-time Baylor, which had established a pattern for scheduling one game a season against a team from the less-competitive Football Championship Subdivision.
McCaw checked his calendar and told Liberty that Baylor had an opening.
