Baylor dismissed starting tight end Tre'Von Armstead from the football program for a team rules violation, the school announced Friday in a press release.
Armstead received all-Big 12 honors last season and was expected to play a prominent role this season in Baylor's expolosive offense. He played in the season opener against SMU, but was held out of last week's game against Lamar for unspecified reasons.
Now off the team, Armstead's void could be filled by the largest tight end in America, 400-pound converted lineman LaQuan McGowan. McGowan gained national attention when he caught a touchdown pass in last season's Cotton Bowl against Michigan State, and numerous profiles were written about him during spring workouts when it became evident that coach Art Briles was serious about playing McGowan at tight end full time.
