Baylor trying to shake reputation for first-round draft busts

WACO – The backdrop of Baylor’s pro day provides a larger-than-life reminder of the gold standard for the football program’s draft prospects.

Hanging on the west wall of the Allison Indoor Football Practice Facility are giant banners of each of Baylor’s five first-round draft picks under coach Art Briles.

Offensive tackle Jason Smith, defensive tackle Philip Taylor, guard Danny Watkins, quarterback Robert Griffin III and receiver Kendall Wright have helped Briles put the Bears on the map since the coach’s arrival from Houston in 2008.

“They changed the image of Baylor football first and foremost,” Briles said.
