Baylor overcomes USC upset bid to advance to NCAA Sweet 16

Manuel Lecomte scored 12 points in a late Baylor run as the No. 3-seeded Bears overcame the Southern California Trojans 82-78 in Tulsa, Okla., and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Johnathan Motley led Baylor with 19 points and King McClure and Terry Matson each had 17.

A goaltending call against 11th-seeded USC, pinning the ball on the backboard, on a shot by Lecomte that didn’t appear to have a chance to go in gave Baylor a 78-74 lead with 28 seconds to play.

Baylor will play the winner of the Duke-South Carolina game in an East Region semifinal game on Friday in New York.
