Editor's note: This is the second of a five-part series examining issues surrounding the 2019 Baylor Bears.
One of the Bears biggest problem from 2018 was protecting the quarterback.
Baylor allowed a conference-high 39 sacks for a loss of 241 yards. On most possessions, Charlie Brewer either had to throw in less than three seconds or scramble. The Bears were lucky that Brewer didn't sustain a significant injury last year as he often got hit hard in the backfield and sometimes tossed around like a rag doll.
One of the clearest examples of this was when Brewer took six sacks in the Bears' loss to Oklahoma last season, a team not exactly known for its stellar defense.
