Verkedric Vaughns, a fifth-year senior and safety, will anchor part the Baylor defensive back group that struggled in 2017, a unit that failed to create enough turnovers and allowed too many big plays, according to Baylor coach Matt Rhule. But the Mesquite Poteet product has high hopes for his group.
"I think if we're patient, we can be one of the best defensive back groups in the Big 12," Vaughns said. "Last year, we learned what not to do. This year, if we're patient, there'll be a lot of chances to make plays."
He'll lead a secondary, nicknamed the "Strap Mob" that has benefited from assistant coach Evan Cooper's promotion to an on-field assistant and the addition of Temple graduate transfer Derrek Thomas.
