Baylor Baseball Gets Two Players Selected in 2018 MLB Draft

Related Topics: Troy, Detroit Tigers

On Wednesday, Baylor Baseball capped off an incredible 2018 season, which saw the team win the Big 12 Championship, when two of the Bears’ best players, senior pitcher Troy Montemayor and sophomore third baseman Davis Wendzel, were selected in the 2018 MLB draft.

Troy Montemayor was picked by the Detroit Tigers in the 25th round, going 753rd overall. Davis Wendzel was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 37th round with the 1,120th overall pick.

Given that Montemayor is out of college eligibility, there is little decision making in this process for him. However, since Wendzel is only a sophomore he has until July 6th to decide if he wants to go pro now or wants to return to Baylor for his junior year.
