5 intriguing storylines heading into national signing day: Third-best class is up for grabs between Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma

The event formerly known as National Signing Day has been downsized.

Not a long ago a big deal complete with marathon telecasts of hat ceremonies, animal props and coaches declaring that every need had been met, it's now more anticlimactic.

Think of this coming Wednesday more as one of those after-the-credits scenes in Marvel movies that both completes one story and whets the appetite for more.

After just two years, early signing day in December is what functions as the main attraction. Many schools announced upward of 20 signees in December, leaving few scholarships remaining, and have already pivoted toward the 2020 signing class.
