Tennis balls were the discussion topic of the day for the interview session after a practice that featured several interceptions and a number of passes defensed.
John Harbaugh said he had originally discussed using “fungos” which could mean either baseballs or the hard rubber balls used to hit fly balls to outfielders. One of his assistants suggested tennis balls would be a safer alternative. The team has done some practice with them to improve ball tracking and path to the ball by members of the secondary.
Jimmy Smith said he had been through similar training at Colorado, but they wore an eyepatch when doing so.
