The preseason is a time of the year when NFL teams can see their questions answered in real time. Is the roster deep enough at a particular position? How does this rookie look with his first taste of NFL competition? Has the free agent acquisition learned all the language of the play calls, and is he fit a good fit for the team’s scheme? You don’t always get the answers you’re looking for in those three short weeks, but it’s a nice sense of security when you do.
