Ravens' Steve Smith practices for first time this year (well, sort of)

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. was officially activated off the physically unable to perform Thursday and practiced for the first time since rupturing his Achilles nine months ago.

Well, sort of.

Smith participated in what was essentially a walk-through as the Ravens prepare for Saturday's preseason game in Indianapolis. He wore a Ravens hat instead of a helmet and suited up in cutoff sweatpants instead of full pads.

But this was a good sign for Smith to be out running routes at half speed and not favoring his surgically repaired right Achilles tendon.
