OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens re-signed wide receiver Chris Matthews on Monday and placed cornerback Maurice Canady on injured reserve.
Canady, who injured his knee in late July, is a candidate to be one of the team's two designated to return players. He can be activated after spending at least eight weeks on IR.
To qualify for "designated to return," a player must spend time on the 53-man roster. The Ravens were leaning toward using Canady as the replacement for injured Tavon Young (ACL) at nickelback.
Baltimore brought back Matthews for his special teams ability.
