Ravens move on from defensive starters Daryl Smith and Chris Canty

The Ravens released veteran inside linebacker Daryl Smith on Thursday, an industry source confirmed.

Smith, 33, spent the past three seasons with the Ravens, leading the team in tackles in two of those years. In 2015, he led the Ravens with 121 tackles (72 solo) with three sacks, three passes defended and an interception.

Cutting Smith, who was set to count $4.375 million against the salary cap in 2016, will save the Ravens about $2.6 million in cap room.

Although he was still a productive player, Smith was taken off field in passing situations more and more often last season.
