Keenan Reynolds was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens. But that didn't exactly clear all obstacles between the former Navy quarterback to pursue an NFL career.
Today, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus recommended to Defense Secretary Ash Carter that Reynolds be allowed to sidestep the active duty naval service obligations typically fulfilled by Naval Academy graduates, BaltimoreRavens.com reports.
Instead, if Carter grants the request, he'll be able to serve in the reserve, and not on active duty. It's not clear what he would be doing in the reserve, but the move would free him up, as Mabus said in a memo, to represent the Navy on a battlefield of a different sort.
