OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens safety Eric Weddle earned the first AFC defensive player of the week award of his 11-year NFL career after returning an interception for a touchdown and forcing a fumble in a 44-20 win over the Detroit Lions.

Weddle becomes the first Ravens safety to receive this honor since Ed Reed in 2010. A four-time Pro Bowl player, Weddle now has five interceptions and two forced fumbles this season for a defense that leads the league in takeaways.

This marks the third straight week that a Ravens player has won an award.
