The Baltimore Ravens and Towson University are the latest to join organizations, companies and more recognizing Juneteenth as a paid holiday.
The day recognizes June 19, 1865, the date when the last southern state freed all slaves, as announced by a Union general at the time. The last state to free slaves came over two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
The Baltimore Ravens and Towson University are recognizing Juneteenth as a paid holiday for its employees.
On Wednesday, Ravens officials announced the move to make the date a company paid holiday and joined the growing list of NFL teams and Nike making a similar decision.
