Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said that he heard running back Ray Rice tell NFL commissioner Roger Goodell that he hit his then-fiance (now wife) Janay in Rice's June 16 hearing with the NFL, according to an ESPN report.
This came in Rice's two-day hearing on his appeal of the indefinite suspension Goodell gave Rice after video of the incident was released.
Goodell has claimed that Rice did not tell him that he hit his then-fiance, which resulted in a two game suspension that was later changed to an indefinite suspension after the video was released.
The report also states that the NFL and NFLPA had different notes on the June 16 hearing. The NFLPA version say that Rice told the commissioner he struck his then-fiance, while the NFL's version is much more vague.
If Newsome's version of events is true, Rice's suspension will be overturned, allowing Rice to return to the league immediately. It would also open up the potential for legal action against the league and Goodell.
It's unclear when a final ruling will be made on this case, but it's expected to come within the next week or two.
