Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice remains indefinitely suspended following the release of the video that showed him hitting his now-wife, but sources indicate that Rice could be reinstated within the next month or so.
An appeal hearing date has been set, with a final decision expected to come by mid-November, which would be enough time for Rice to sign with another team this season. There is the expectation in NFL circles that his playing status will be resolved before the league completes their investigation into the handling of his case.
Rice and his legal team will make the case that, as a first-time offender, he should have been suspended a maximum of six games (which has already passed) under the NFL's new domestic violence policy.
Even if he is reinstated to the league, it is plausible that no team would want to sign the former Pro Bowler this season. However, teams looking to add another talented runner to their backfield for a playoff run could be very interested in Rice.
