The 2015 NFL Draft is just a few days away, and there’s plenty of reason to be excited about the festivities in Chicago if you’re a Baltimore Ravens fan. Here’s our breakdown of everything Ravens fans need to know heading into draft week.
Dorial Green-Beckham A Dark Horse Pick At #26
Our own Doug White makes the case for Green-Beckham as a surprise pick for the Ravens, regardless of Green-Beckham's off-the-field issues:
You have to start with the fact that arguably the Ravens’ position of greatest need is wide receiver. While the club is also believed to be seeking help in the defensive backfield, both at cornerback and safety, along with tight-end depth and a pass rusher, it is believed Baltimore is looking to add an impact receiver in the first round if possible.
What better fits the description of an impact receiver than a 6-foot-5-inch, 230-pound athlete with great speed, great hands and physicality to match? That’s Dorial Green-Beckham.
Green-Beckham was dismissed from the Missouri Tigers football program after the release of a police report concerning an allegedly burglary and assault incident. He was never charged, and landed at Oklahoma to work on the Sooners' practice squad.
Ravens Pondering A Trade?
Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome has a penchant for making draft-day moves, and the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec believes he's once again assessing his options before draft day:
The Ravens will enter Thursday's first round with the 26th overall pick and plenty of inventory to use to move up in the draft. Even though three of their 10 picks are compensatory ones and can't be traded, such selections still provide insurance if the Ravens want to package some of their original picks. The likelihood of getting four more compensatory selections next year also gives the Ravens flexibility to include 2016 picks in deals.
Newsome had made a trade in 13 straight drafts, and he's either moved up or back in the first round in five of the past nine. This week, he'll ponder the quandary that all NFL general managers confront at this time of year: Do you trade up to guarantee that you'll get the top remaining player on your draft board, trade back to accumulate more picks, or just stand pat?
Those questions will likely remain unanswered until the draft kicks off on Thursday.
