The 2015 NFL Draft is here, and there’s plenty of reason to be excited about the goings-on in Chicago if you’re a Baltimore Ravens fan. Here’s our breakdown of everything Ravens fans need to know heading into the draft.
Is Kevin Johnson the secondary help Baltimore needs?
Seeing that Baltimore's secondary was devastated by injuries last season, it appears the time is now for the Ravens to replenish their depth on the defense's back end.
One name who could be a first-round target for Baltimore is Wake Forest' Kevin Johnson.
Per Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun:
The Ravens held a private workout and meeting with Wake Forest cornerback Kevin Johnson and came away impressed with the River Hill graduate, according to sources. A former 154-pound college freshman, Johnson has developed into a polished, aggressive 6-foot, 188-pound shutdown corner.
"Kevin Johnson, I love," NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said. "He could be the cleanest overall corner in the draft and has been rising up boards. I think he's going to go somewhere between 16 to 25, in that range. As the defensive back coaches have gotten involved, he's gotten pushed up a little bit. The coaches love him because he's an intelligent kid."
Melvin Gordon over Todd Gurley at #26?
The Ravens have made no secret of the fact that they're looking for a young complement to Justin Forsett in the backfield, and Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon could be the team's back of choice over other options such as Georgia's Todd Gurley.
"The Ravens could use a young running back like Gordon or Gurley to go with Joe Flacco," former Chicago Bears and New York Giants director of college scouting Greg Gabriel said, via the Baltimore Sun. "I could see them being more interested in Gordon than Gurley because of Gurley's knee."
One other factor in favor of Gordon -- Ravens running backs coach Thomas Hammock was Gordon's position coach at Wisconsin.
