The 2015 NFL season is just weeks away, and there’s plenty of intrigue to spare surrounding the Baltimore Ravens as the days tick down. Here are three things to watch for in training camp:
3) Who steps up for the departed Torrey Smith?
Steve Smith Sr. is the clear #1 with Torrey Smith out of the picture. From there it's anyone's guess. The three top returning receivers behind Smith (Michael Campanaro, Marlon Brown, Kamar Aiken) combined for a less-than-jaw dropping 55 catches, 624 yards and four touchdowns. Of those three, Aiken has the most upside and will likely be the primary challenger to first-round home-run threat Breshad Perriman for the right to line up across from Smith Sr.
2) How will Justin Forsett follow his breakout season?
The good news for Forsett is that the Ravens will continue to run zone blocking schemes for him, allowing the former role player to play to his strengths as a read-and-react back. Forsett is an interesting case in that he found his sea legs as a feature back in his age-29 season, and the team's running game will be counting on the Cal product to build on said momentum with a productive 2015 campaign. If so, the offense will be as formidable as it was at its peaks in 2014 if not more so.
1) Will Baltimore young's offense weapons produce?
First-round pick Breshad Perriman was the premiere clutch receiver in this draft when it comes to slipping coverage in the red zone, and his ability to be an elite deep threat should cancel out the loss of Torrey Smith. Add in second-round pick Maxx Williams at tight end, and Baltimore’s offense should be even better than last year’s unit.
