The Baltimore Ravens are in the market for a veteran backup quarterback for Joe Flacco, and while the free-agent market on QBs is pretty thin at this point, there are plenty of veteran options out there for the Ravens to take their pick from.
With that in mind, here's our pick of 3 potential backup QBs for the Ravens to sign.
Michael Vick
The Ravens could end up as Vick's best hope to remain an NFL quarterback, seeing that quarterbacks coach Marty Mornhinweg coached Vick as the Jets' offensive coordinator last season and also spent four years working with him in Philadelphia. He's still a hard athlete to gameplan in spite of his advancing age (turns 35 in June), and he's as solid as a backup option as the Ravens are going to find on the current open market.
Christian Ponder
Despite the bust tag that he's earned after being drafted 12th overall by the Minnesota Vikings in 2011, Ponder has the right physical and mental gifts to make him a standout backup QB option. Despite going just 14-21-1 as a starter with 38 career touchdowns and 36 career interceptions, Ponder combines impressive mobility with more-than-adequate arm strength. At just 27 years of age, he would be an intriguing get both to hold a clipboard and to work on confidence-wise as a project.
Matt Moore
He hasn't seen the field much over the past three seasons, but Moore has the arm to make most downfield throws and has shown the ability to get things done when called upon in a pinch. He's just 11-12 as a starter in his career, but he's been only been able to throw 10 regular season passes behind Ryan Tannehill in Miami over the past two seasons. While there's a question over whether or not Moore would want to move laterally into a similar situation behind the durable Joe Flacco in Baltimore, he'd be an impressive signing for the Ravens if they can secure him at the right price.
