With the 48th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens have selected Timmy Jernigan out of Florida State.
Position: Nose Tackle
Measurables: 6’2”, 299 lbs, 31 5/8” arm length, 9 5/8” hands
Despite suffering an ankle injury in the Florida State Seminoles’ 2013 spring practice, Jernigan started all 14 games at nose tackle for the team last season – amassing 63 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, and 4.5 sacks in his one and only season as a starter in Tallahassee. He had a well-rounded, albeit unspectacular, showing at the Combine – posting a 5.06-second 40-yard dash along with lifting 225 pounds 27 times on the bench press.
Jernigan displays solid strength for his size, utilizing leverage and good knee-bending technique to disrupt at the line of scrimmage. He is a very good wrap tackler, following through with impressive force on the end of his technique. His active hands and feet make him hard to fully engage and neutralize, displaying a full range of motions against the pass in order to add in pressure.
