Left-handed reliever Zach Phillips made his spring training debut with the Orioles on Friday, pitching one scoreless inning in the team’s 11-10 10-inning win over the New York Yankees at Ed Smith Stadium.
The Orioles signed Phillips to a major league contract Wednesday as insurance for situational lefty Brian Matusz, who will likely open the season on the disabled list with a lower back strain. He was previously in camp with the Chicago White Sox, who designated him for assignment earlier this month.
