Wieters activated for tonight's series opener

Veteran infielder Everth Cabrera was also designated for assignment on Friday.

Wieters will be returning from Tommy John surgery on his throwing elbow, and he'll be playing in the big leagues for the first time since hitting the disabled list in May 2014. The switch-hitter appeared in five games for Norfolk and Double-A Bowie, and he batted a combined .313 (5-for-16) with two walks.

Wieters, the fifth overall pick in the 2007 Draft, has hit .257 with 92 home runs in six seasons for the Orioles, and he's been an American League All-Star three times.
