It would be easy to insert right-hander Kevin Gausman back into the Orioles starting rotation to make his first major league start of the season on Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Gausman threw 74 pitches last night for high Class-A Frederick, and recorded eight strikeouts while allowing two runs – one earned – on two hits over 3 1/3 innings. He also walked two against the Lynchburg Hillcats, the Cleveland Indians’ high Class-A affiliate.
Gausman’s a competitor. He talked often this spring about his goal of making 30 starts this season and pitching 200 innings, an ambition that fades with every rehab start.
