Every June, the MLB Draft is held so that teams can draft prospects in order to improve their farm system short-term and potentially improve their major league team long-term. For teams like the Baltimore Orioles who don’t have the huge budgets of the Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers, the draft is extremely important because it’s their chance to not have to bid against those teams to get elite talent. This year, the draft will be held from June 9 to June 11.
In recent years, the Orioles have been able to get players like Kevin Gausman, Dylan Bundy, Manny Machado, and Matt Wieters through the draft.
