The Orioles will fly to Toronto on Thursday for a weekend series against the Blue Jays, but Cuban outfielder Dariel Alvarez will not be on the plane.
Alvarez has not gotten his U.S. work visa finalized, according to baseball sources, which means he could cross the border into Canada, but would not necessarily be allowed to cross back over into the United States because he currently is on a single-entry visa.
Instead, he'll probably be optioned to Class-A Frederick for a few days and the Orioles will add a right-handed hitter to the roster -- a priority with two left-handed starters set to face them in Toronto.
