Violet R. Ripken, the widow of former Orioles manager Cal Ripken Sr. and mother to Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr., died Friday at age 82, according to the family’s longtime public relations representative John Maroon. She was set to turn 83 this past Saturday.
