Matt Wieters rarely loses his cool, so seeing the Orioles catcher break from his stoic nature always draws notice.
During his final at-bat in the Orioles’ 6-5 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday at Rogers Centre, Wieters jawed with home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez after taking a called second strike in the eighth inning.
Wieters was animated in his argument with Gonzalez, prompting manager Buck Showalter to sprint out of the dugout and pull his catcher away.
“There were a lot of strikes that weren’t strikes,” Showalter said. “We all know that, you all are watching the same game.
