With less than two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Orioles have little more than math on their side.
They entered Tuesday night’s game against the Washington Nationals six games out of the second American League wild-card spot, four teams between them and a playoff spot with just 13 games left. Still, the Orioles -- at least publicly -- say they believe they have an outside chance at the postseason. But at this point they’re mostly playing for late-season momentum alone.
Facing their regional rival on Tuesday night with both teams clinging to faint postseason hopes, the homer-happy Orioles didn’t need the long ball in a 4-1 victory over the Nationals in front of a mixed-allegiance crowd of 27,338 at Nationals Park.
