The Orioles’ 17-hit, 12-run burst Sunday made moot the fact that Tyler Wilson needed to maneuver delicately to even get through the five innings he gave them.
In the 12-5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, Wilson’s ERA rose to 4.50 on the season, and 4.89 as a starter, after he allowed five runs in five innings on 10 hits and a pair of walks.
But it’s the final outcome — the W next to Wilson’s name, as manager Buck Showalter put it — that mitigates the fact that the 26-year-old right-hander is going through his major league growing pains in a very public way.
