Trumbo, Orioles could find common ground

BALTIMORE -- With Spring Training in sight, the one big, bold move remaining for the Orioles would be to find a way to re-sign slugger Mark Trumbo.

Friday's trade for Seth Smith was a good one, giving Baltimore a left-handed-hitting outfielder and a solid defensive option at the corners. It also saved $4 million. That's not nearly enough to sign Trumbo, of course, but certainly the trade wasn't any kind of deterrent.

Whether Trumbo's reported offer from Baltimore is still on the table isn't necessarily important. (Remember all the talk of the on-and-off contract offer for Chris Davis?
