WASHINGTON — A passing downpour through Washington on Sunday afternoon created a lengthy delay in Sunday’s Orioles-Nationals game as the grounds crew at Nationals Park struggled for the duration of the 15-minute storm to unroll their tangled infield tarp.
The tarp was eventually unrolled and then properly put back, and the grounds crew began to rake mud into piles on the infield dirt and shovel it into the backs of John Deere carts to be hauled away.
Shortly after the rain stopped, Orioles manager Brandon Hyde and Nationals coach Tim Bogar had a meeting with umpires to discuss the plan, though none was relayed to the media at Nationals Park.
