As multiple media outlets reported the Orioles had selected Chicago Cubs bench coach Brandon Hyde to be their next manager Tuesday night, new general manager Mike Elias denied that a hire had been made.
The Athletic reported Hyde will be the Orioles’ next manager and the New York Post reported the team was closing in on hiring him, but Elias said he has yet to choose a replacement for longtime manager Buck Showalter.
“I will say very clearly it’s a premature report,” Elias said.
Hyde, 45, has been on the Cubs coaching staff since 2013, serving as first base coach and bench coach during that time.
