The long-mooted moment has finally arrived. In the Orioles’ 35th game of the season, manager Buck Showalter made good on his promise to start Pedro Alvarez at third base.
Alvarez will start at third base for the first time since Aug. 17, 2014 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and bat seventh as the Orioles face Anibal Sanchez and the Detroit Tigers on Saturday at Camden Yards.
Showalter said he didn’t get much of a reaction when he told Alvarez such an assignment was coming his way, though they discussed it earlier this week.
