In an odd sequence of events, the Orioles claimed outfielder Drew Stubbs on waivers from the Rangers to help their outfield defense. To clear a roster spot, they designated left-hander Kyle Lobstein, whom they acquired from the Pirates in exchange for lefty Zach Phillips earlier in the day. They also finalized a deal with the D-backs later that night for outfielder Michael Bourn, sending Minor Leaguer Jason Heinrich to Arizona.
Lefty Ashur Tolliver had been designated for assignment to make room for Lobstein on Baltimore's active roster. To make room for Bourn, Joey Rickard was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
