In four games against the Orioles this week, the Philadelphia Phillies have had just one lead.
They made it stand up, though, beating the Orioles 2-1 on Ryan Howard's sixth-inning home run Thursday that snapped a season-worst nine game losing streak.
It also stopped a modest, three-game winning streak for the Orioles (34-32), who have won nine of their last 11.
The Orioles took an immediate lead in the top of the first on Manny Machado’s 14th homer of the season, tying Chris Davis for most on the club.
It was the fourth time an Oriole had led off a game with a home run this season and the third time Machado has done it.
