Probably as you read this, the Orioles are en route back to Baltimore for a four-game series against Houston. After today, I think they can be forgiven for wanting to get the hell out of New York. Sean Manaea held a wan Orioles offense hitless for 5 2/3 innings, and despite emergency starter Cole Irvin keeping the game manageable, two Orioles relievers, Craig Kimbrel and Seranthony Domínguez, each allowed a home run, Domínguez’s the game-winner.
A lot of things on Wednesday were less than ideal. For starters, it was only due to sheer exigency that Cole Irvin, DFA’d on July 30 and in Triple-A since then, was making a start against New York.
