O's designate De Aza as Flaherty returns from DL

The news is a bit of a surprise, considering infielder Everth Cabrera has options remaining. But with Flaherty coming back from the DL and shortstop J.J. Hardy's recent back issue, the Orioles want to be able to cover themselves in the infield.

Flaherty, 28, appeared in two rehab games with Triple-A Norfolk, going 0-for-5 with three walks, two RBIs and a run. He was placed on the DL for the second time this season on May 12 with a right groin strain.

Flaherty has hit .250/.372/.500 with three doubles, two home runs and four RBIs in 13 games with the O's this season.
