The Orioles’ Opening Day roster became much clearer Thursday as the team broke camp after its final Grapefruit League game at Ed Smith Stadium.
It appears that the club will carry 14 position players for Opening Day, including rookie Trey Mancini and Joey Rickard. The team is still attempting to carry non-roster outfielder Craig Gentry, but the Orioles must first make 40-man roster space for him, which might not become available until Rule 5 draft pick Aneury Tavarez clears waivers.
Pedro Alvarez, who signed a minor league deal with the club to play the outfield, will start the season in Triple-A Norfolk and continue his transition there.
