Orioles bench coach John Russell’s catching background means he’s taken a hands-on approach with the organization’s backstops at every level. A recent check-in on top prospect Chance Sisco at Triple-A Norfolk left Russell confident about the Orioles’ prized young catcher’s progress.
Russell said he spoke to Sisco and catching coordinator Don Werner on a conference call earlier this week, and between that and the chance to watch some tape of Sisco behind the plate, the 22-year-old catcher is “starting to get the feel for it.
“We have to remember, he hasn’t caught a ton in his life,” Russell said.
