A devastating flu bug that has swept through the Orioles clubhouse had already made an impact on the team's active roster before forcing Buck Showalter to miss his first game because of illness as Orioles manager on Wednesday night.
Showalter, regularly one of the first to arrive at the ballpark and the last to leave, was instead bedridden in the team's Manhattan hotel during the Orioles' game against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
Orioles bench coach John Russell, who filled in for Showalter, was without third baseman Manny Machado, who also caught the bug and was given permission to report to Yankee Stadium late to see Yankees team doctors and get medication.
