Orioles staff takes shape with two joining rotation, Rule 5 picks making team and Félix Hernández electing free agency

With spring training wrapping up Monday in Sarasota, Florida, the Orioles finalized some of their pitching plans that give shape to the staff that will be available this week in Boston on Opening Day.

Manager Brandon Hyde announced before the game that Jorge López and Dean Kremer would be the team’s No. 4 and No. 5 starters to begin the second series of the year in New York, and according to an industry source, both Rule 5 draft selections in Mac Sceroler and Tyler Wells were informed they’d be on the team come Opening Day.

López, a waiver claim last year from the Kansas City Royals, was a swingman in 2020 with the Orioles and pitched well this spring as he was stretched out.
