After receiving an excellent outing from a rookie pitcher Monday night, the Orioles were hoping one of their more reliable veterans would be able to deliver a similar performance at the O.co Coliseum on Tuesday night.
But Miguel Gonzalez, who has been uncharacteristically erratic much of the season was again uneven as the Orioles lost 5-0 to the Oakland A’s before an announced crowd of 16,328.
It was the seventh time this season the club has been shut out, and the first since July 3 at the Chicago White Sox.
The Orioles (54-52) are now one game behind the rival Toronto Blue Jays for the second wild card in the American League and fell to third place in the AL East, 6 ½ games behind the New York Yankees.
